PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Chester County’s manufacturing industry is in need of thousands of skilled workers. And to help fill that gap, free programs on the ins and outs of the industry will be held throughout the year.
The manufacturing bootcamp is free and offered to Chester County residents. Among the organizers is the Chester County Workforce Development Board. Director Patrick Bokovitz said the program will offer guidance on machinery, tools, electrical circuitry and sensors, problem-solving and a lot more.
“That will give them three weeks of virtual and in-person training,” he said, “give them a real good sense of what the industry is all about and specifically some of the tasks that they may be asked to do as they enter the workforce.”
Bokovitz added safety will also be covered in the program. “It covers a number of safety aspects that they would be required to adhere to if and when they got offered that job and served that job,” he said.
“In addition, it goes in to what I call the people aspects of the job, how to communicate with coworkers and supervisors.”
County residents interested in the next program must get in touch with a caterer counselor by end of business on Monday. To get in touch with a career advisor, residents can call 610-280-1062 or email [email protected].
The program is free to Chester County residents who possess a high school diploma or GED, participate in a pre-program interview and pass a drug screening.
