Beverage industry mega-show Drinktec is having to break its four-yearly cycle for the first time, postponing this year’s exhibition to 2022.
The five-day show, which has been held every four years since 1985, will slip by 12 months, due to the medium-term uncertainty for the prospects of international travel. Covering the sourcing, logistics and packaging areas of beverages, Drinktec 2022 will be held between 12 and 16 September in its home city of Munich.
According to organisers Messe München, three quarters of the exhibition space has already been booked.
“Until recently, we assumed that the pandemic situation would improve, making international travel possible,” said Messe München deputy chair Reinhard Pfeiffer. “The latest developments have quashed these expectations. Two thirds of all Drinktec visitors come from abroad. Of these, half come from other continents.
“This means we cannot deliver the benefits of a leading global trade fair this year.”
