CONCORD
The city of Concord and the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce are relaunching the highly successful Shop Concord program to support the city’s small businesses by encouraging residents to shop locally this summer. The Shop Concord program (bayareane.ws/3fWrfse) will help increase sales for local businesses that have experienced setbacks during the pandemic and benefit consumers by boosting the local economy.
The e-gift cards can be purchased on Concord’s Yiftee page (app.yiftee.com/gift-card/concord), which includes a list of participating merchants. Purchased cards can then be redeemed at any participating Concord business. The digital nature of the gift cards allows customers to split the original and bonus portions to keep for themselves or gift to others.
Unlike previous Shop Concord programs, customers will now be able to buy a $100 e-gift card through Shop Concord and in return receive a free $50 e-gift card that can be used at participating businesses. There is also still time for local business owners to sign up to participate in the Shop Concord program. Visit the Shop Concord link above for more details.

PITTSBURG
High school graduate starts Bank of America internship
Kalani Dunn has started a paid summer internship after being selected for the highly competitive Bank of America Student Leaders program (bayareane.ws/3y5PXOr). Dunn, a Pittsburg High School graduate soon to be a UC Berkeley freshman, recently began her job with the nonprofit Junior Achievement of Northern California (norcal.ja.org).
As part of the bank’s focus on teen employment, the virtual, eight-week Bank of America program pays each Student Leader $17 an hour. Dunn and three other East Bay teens were chosen for the internship. Dunn attended the UC Berkeley Pre-College Academy before her sophomore year and was a tutor for her grade school’s after-school program.
She also studied Italian “on a whim” throughout high school and earned the California State Seal of Biliteracy in Italian. After the 2020 Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests, Dunn started a fundraiser called Masks4All (bayareane.ws/2UjraaY) that sold reusable face masks to raise funds for the BLM movement and support the Black community.
