A backyard bash to celebrate the growth of Little Bohemia. On Saturday business owners held an event highlighting the history of the neighborhood. But as the area continues to grow, so does the concern local business owners have about pedestrian safety in the area. The hot and humid weather didn’t keep people away from the Little Bo Backyard Bash on Saturday.“Where it feels more neighborhood-friendly where you can bring your kids and your dogs and hang out. I just love being down here, and I love seeing people visit all of us,” NOA Brides owner Rachel Campbell said. The first year of the event gave people the opportunity to shop local, sip on a cold beer and get the chance to try some of the food trucks that are typically in the area. But a lot of this is new.“It’s a strong group of small business owners and we’re just happy to show it off,” Fizzy’s Fountain & Liquor owner Katie Mock said. And an increase in the number of businesses lining 13th Street means an increase in foot traffic. And things can get dangerous.KETV NewsWatch 7 asked the owner of Fizzy’s if they see a lot of fast cars in the area.“Yeah, we do, we do… I definitely recommend using the crosswalk when you’re down here,” Mock said.Making the area safer is something business owners like Campbell have been working on for a while now.“I worry quite a bit about my own customers for sure, but I also have kids that I bring down to work with me and it would mean just a lot for everybody, the businesses, the customers and also people who live here,” Campbell said. Campbell said she’d like to see more streetlights and pedestrian crossings.“Having the ability to slow down the traffic maybe with some speed bumps and reducing the lanes would make a really big difference down here,” Campbell said. They both just want to make sure that events like this can continue to happen, safely. “We want people to go all around the neighborhood walk up and down the street, go across the street to other businesses, and when you see scary fast traffic. It’s a bit of a deterrent to start circulating too much,” Mock said.
