Flames tore through a home Tuesday evening in a rural area of East County, sparking a small vegetation blaze that firefighters quickly knocked down, authorities said.
No injuries were reported in the fire, which officials said erupted a few minutes before 6 p.m. at a home on Lyons Creek Lane off Lyons Creek Road, a few miles east of Jamul.
The flames charred about an acre of brush around the home, according to Cal Fire San Diego spokesperson Capt. Frank LoCoco. Fire crews halted its spread within 40 minutes.
Firefighters extinguished the house fire a few minutes before 7 p.m., according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department official, who said that all residents made it out of the home. Deputies evacuated three neighboring homes, and California Highway Patrol officers shut down some roads in the area.
The roads were reopened around 7 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Department.
One caller reported hearing possible gunshots, but LoCoco said officials on the scene believed the sound was likely firearm ammunition inside the burning home exploding.
The incident was initially reported as a vegetation fire and a separate structure fire, LoCoco said. Firefighting crews from San Miguel Fire & Rescue and the U.S. Forest Service responded to the blaze along with the Cal Fire crews.
