TRUMBULL, CT — With the kickoff this weekend of Small Business Saturday, which is part of the Shop Small movement, Trumbull is launching the Main Street Dollars Program designed to help encourage shopping local.
The Shop Small movement is gaining momentum as more people become aware of the impact of online shopping on local merchants, according to Trumbull officials. The town’s small, local merchants are dependent upon residents shopping with them, especially as these businesses continue to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Small, local businesses are the lifeblood of our Trumbull economy,” said First Selectman Vicki Tesoro in a statement. “I want to encourage everyone to visit our shops and buy local as often as possible this holiday season and every day. Buying local keeps money in our economy to generate even more benefits. We are excited to announce a new program this year, the Main Street Dollars Program, targeted to support three of our local businesses, Plasko’s Farm, Pure Poetry, and City Line Florist. If the program is successful, we will look to expand it in future years.”
The Main Street Dollars program will provide up to 500 certificates to Trumbull residents to spend from Nov. 30 through Jan. 31, 2022. Each certificate is worth $10 dollars and a customer must spend a minimum of $20 dollars at one of the participating businesses in order to apply the certificate.
Certificates can be applied toward any goods or merchandise at Plasko’s Farm, Pure Poetry, and City Line Florist. Residents can pick up certificates at the Economic and Community Development Office at Trumbull Town Hall, or at the Trumbull Senior Center on Priscilla Place.
“This effort is part of the Trumbull Celebrates Local initiative designed to help local business recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” officials said. “Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the certificates and also to visit and support our other small businesses in town.”
