Launching a new business often comes with its fair share of hurdles and adding a pandemic on top of that can be quite daunting, but Alex Ewers, owner of 3 Rocks Engineering firm, and his team have risen to the challenge.
Housed in offices at the Tech Start building at 425 Main St., the company is quickly growing and ready to tackle all civil and structural engineering needs.
Originally from Texas, Ewers first came to Cañon City, following the call of the River, and spent two summers as a raft guide for Echo Canyon. After returning to Texas to finish his degree, he moved to Rifle joining an engineering firm.
In 2018, Ewers moved back to Cañon City with his wife, Andrea, and their two children to be closer to her family.
Noting a need for quality and local civil and structural engineers in Cañon City and surrounding areas, 3 Rocks Engineering was soon born. Named after Ewers’ favorite rapid in the Bighorn section of the Arkansas River, 3 Rocks Engineering strives to provide custom solutions for the community.
Today, 3 Rocks Engineering has grown from a dream to a reality and is staffed with quality individuals, including recent graduates from Cañon City High School and Florence High School drafting programs, who strive to implement the values that the company was founded on.
In addition to wanting to meet the engineering needs of the community, Ewers also challenges his team to think outside the box about how they can best meet other needs of the community they serve. This core value of the company includes donating 20% of profits to various local nonprofit organizations and partnering with the CCHS internship program.
Last year, more than 500 internship hours were logged at 3 Rocks Engineering by local high school students.
3 Rocks Engineering is a one-stop engineering firm offering both civil and structural engineering services. From larger projects featuring full residential neighborhood design to drainage reports, Ewers said the firm can meet all needs. Other services include utility and septic design, structural and foundation design, and foundation inspections.
“Whatever your needs, know that when you choose 3 Rocks Engineering not only are you receiving quality services but you are also supporting a company that cares about Fremont County,” Ewers said.
