Press release from the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce:
Feb. 7, 2021
Tom Byrne, Chairman of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce, is proud to announce that the Middletown Youth Employment Program is growing!
Every year since 2006, the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce has placed Middletown students into constructive employment through the Middletown Youth Employment Program. The chamber has the capacity, through its dynamic membership, to place program participants into summer employment in a wide variety of professional fields. Program host sites come from the public sector, the non-profit sector, and most notably, the private sector. The program is designed to provide employment opportunities for economically disadvantaged youth between the ages of 14 to 21.
This year the 2020-2021 Middletown Youth Employment Program has provided 70+ work experience opportunities for youth in the Middlesex County area, even with the additional concerns of the ongoing pandemic.
At present, during the ongoing year-round component of the program, the Middlesex Chamber has been able to provide 15 additional students with employment opportunities to gain a work experience during the last five months.
Chamber President Larry McHugh noted, “This program teaches our young people not only the fundamentals of employment, such as getting to work on time and ready to contribute, but also the pride that comes with putting in a solid work week and receiving a paycheck that was earned through hard and honest work. We are proud of this important local workforce development program, and look forward to helping more students with employment opportunities.”
