A City of Savannah employee is still on the job after showing up to work with a firearm.Several city employees have told WJCL that Code Enforcement manager Todd Desautels brought a gun to his office in the Civic Center. When told he had to leave it outside the building, sources close to the story say he got upset. “This individual was a little irate because he was asked to be removed, I mean he was asked to leave the civic center because of his firearm and he became a little belligerent or what have you,” said Alderwoman Alicia Miller Blakely.The alderwoman launched an investigation into the incident after being made aware of it about a week after it happened. She says she is unsure why an investigation took so long saying, “that’s a question that you would have to ask our city manager and city attorney.”WJCL reached out to the city for interviews with both the city attorney and city manager but they declined citing the fact that it’s an ongoing personnel issue. A city employee did say, however that they would release the HR complaint to the station. That complaint has not yet been received.For Alderwoman Miller Blakely, the concern lies with the workers who continue to have to work with Desautels.“That could’ve cost someone their life,” she said. “Those individuals that work there they became a little concerned and feared that something could’ve possibly happened to them.”
