Trump tells followers to boycott baseball
A spokesperson for Donald Trump has insisted that the former president did not snub a meeting with Florida congressman Matt Gaetz, as had been reported by CNN on Sunday night, calling the story “fake news”.
The broadcaster reported that Mr Gaetz, who is facing a federal investigation over sexual misconduct allegations, was recently denied a meeting with Mr Trump in Mar-a-Lago citing two people familiar with the matter.
“No such scheduling or meeting request was ever made, and therefore, it could never have been declined,” Mr Trump’s spokesman, Jason Miller said in a post on Twitter on Monday.
Mr Gaetz, who has not been charged with any crimes and has adamantly denied allegations surrounding the federal investigation, also called the report a “total lie.”
Over the weekend, Mr Trump reportedly lashed out at high-profile Republicans including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and former Vice Presiden Mike Pence in a closed-door speech night to donors at his Mar-a-Lago resort.
Mr Trump said that he was “disappointed” in his vice president and used a profanity in assessing Mr McConnell, also branding him a “stone-cold loser”, according to remarks obtained by the Associated Press.
He also rehashed his recent attacks against Dr Anthony Fauci, the country’s leading infectious disease specialist, once again taunting him for his first pitch last season at Nationals Park, The Washington Post reported.
“Have you ever seen anybody that is so full of crap?” he reportedly said of Dr Fauci, after recounting an anecdote of how an individual told him the vaccine should be called the “Trumpcine”.

Texas governor Greg Abbott dismisses Joe Biden’s gun pledges as ‘show’
Texas governor Greg Abbott has hit out at Joe Biden’s pledge to take action on gun violence, dismissing the president’s executive actions as “show”.
President Biden announced a range of actions on Thursday that, among other things, aims to stop the sale of so-called “ghost guns” and encourages the adoption of “red-flag” gun laws.
“I think that there is no acceptable way that a president by executive order can infringe upon Second Amendment rights or alter Second Amendment rights,” Mr Abbott said in an interview with Fox News Sunday.
